October is recognized as Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, a time to encourage dog adoption from shelters and raise awareness about the importance of giving homeless dogs a second chance. and Doxie and Dog is increasing its customary donation amount to celebrate and support shelters across the country. 

Significance of the Month

Adopt a Shelter Dog Month was established in 1981 by American Humane to highlight the growing number of dogs and puppies entering shelters. This month serves as an opportunity to promote the adoption of shelter dogs and to educate the public about the benefits of adopting rather than buying pets. According to the ASPCA, approximately 3.1 million dogs enter U.S. animal shelters annually, and only about two-thirds of them are adopted.
